What are the benefits of a new Guardian conservatory roof?

Replacing the whole conservatory can be expensive and time-consuming. If your conservatory is in good order but it’s just the roof that is the problem – it does not keep noises out, looks outdated or is anyway in need of repair – then a replacement roof might be a cost-effective and stylish solution – and you couldn’t be in better hands than with Guardian.

    The Guardian™ Roof

The lightweight, insulated Guardian™ roof system was designed and developed over a ten year period and with one purpose – to replace the typical glass or polycarbonate roof that was used in the construction of most UK conservatories.

The main focus was on the dynamics and performance, however the overall weight of the replacement roof, which needed to be installed onto the existing conservatory windows, doors and frames was always a big priority.

During this period extensive tests were carried out both for compliance and approval to very vigorous structural and thermal standards. The result is not only a brilliant product but a very practical solution, one which has been the biggest home improvement.

    Help And Support

The result of all the research and development is not only a brilliant product, it’s a very practical solution and one that home owners all over the UK are now enjoying.

In fact, the Guardian™ Warm Roof is possibly the biggest revelation to hit the home improvement market for years. As you would expect from the suppliers of a brand new leading product, we are able to offer a full supporting back-up service and assistance with any questions or issues you may have. From building control approval, right through to the full installation procedures, we are here to help provide the answers and information you need.

Thousands of conservatories in the UK have been transformed into home extensions thanks to Guardian’s™ replacement warm roof and on top of that many new conservatories are being specified with our lightweight, insulated product. It really is a win-win situation, home owners get a more comfortable environment and lower heating bills. What are you waiting for?

The insulated solid roof will make a huge difference to the acoustics and the general atmosphere of your conservatory. All of a sudden it’s a full-time living area instead of being a part-time compromise.

    Conservatory Exterior: Stylish And Solid

    Conservatory exterior: stylish and solid

By removing your old conservatory roof and replacing it with a tiled roof you’ll completely change the appearance of the rear of your home and garden. Now, your conservatory will look just like a proper extension and by choosing tiles that match your house and then possibly adding one or more roof windows you’ll be getting all the benefits of a ground floor extension along with the convenience and style of a conservatory. Velux Roof Windows

One of the joys of owning a conservatory is the light, airy atmosphere that it creates. There’s nothing nicer than sitting back and enjoying the view. A typical conservatory is already very light because of the excess of windows but if you really do want the best of both worlds then we recommend a roof window (or possibly two). These very modern products are very practical and give you an alternative option for ventilation as well as the added amount of light that they give the room. Easy to use optional blinds and double glazed for sound and heat protection; they are a great option to consider.

    Interior Finishes

    Plaster Finish

Because the ceiling of a conservatory is typically angled and high, the interior space that you enjoy is often light and airy. Whether you choose roof windows or not, our skilled plasters will finish your ceiling with a beautiful smooth texture ready for painting. Matt white seems to be the most popular colour.

    Timber Interior Finish

Because we are removing your old roof and installing a completely new lightweight, insulated roof you’ll have a wide choice of interior finishes, one very popular choice is the timber. It’s amazing how the wooden ceiling completely changes the character of the room and creates a log cabin effect which you can then develop with your own choice of finishings, lighting and interior ornaments and art.

    LED Spot Lights

Lighting can certainly effect the atmosphere and ambiance of a room, especially if you want your new conservatory to be a multi-use environment. So we recommend LED lighting and you can choose to have as many individual down-lights as you want, plus you can include dimmer switches or even have more than one switch to alter the number of lights that are actually on.

Conservatory roof insulation and thermal efficiency

The best conservatory roofs are well insulated and thermally efficient, meaning they could save you money on heating bills and enable you to have a comfortable living room when it’s hot outside. We have found tiled and solid conservatory roofs to be the most effective. The Guardian™replacement roof system regulates its interior temperature and reduces exterior sounds, making your conservatory a place that you can enjoy all year round. And if you choose to install a Velux window in the roof, you can ensure your conservatory is a bright and light space to enjoy.

Save Money On Your Heating Bills

Fully tested and approved to all thermal and structural standards, the Guardian™ roof is a high performance insulated roof system comprising of a pre-engineered lightweight frame, two layers of rigid insulation board, internal insulated plasterboard, exterior grade plywood and a vapour membrane. All together this creates a thermally efficient living space; keeping the warm air out in the summer and preventing the heat from escaping in the winter thus saving the amount of heat energy required to keep the room at an ambient temperature.

    Building Regulations

In August 2013 the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) released a circular containing some basic guidelines relating to Building Regulation Legislation which apply to the replacement of a translucent roof (made from glass or polycarbonate) onto a conservatory or porch with a solid roof.

The Guardian™ solid roof is a strong, lightweight tiled roof and is fully approved by the Local Authority Building Control.

    Thermal Regulation

To comply with part L of the building regulations 2010, all roofs to rooms (except those in unheated buildings) should be thermally insulated to a maximum U-value of 0.18 W/m²K.

FAQs when replacing a conservatory roof

Do You Need Planning Permission For A Replacement Conservatory Roof?

Conservatories are exempt from building regulations when they are built at ground level and are less than 30 square metres in size or if the conservatory is separate from the house with external doors or windows. In 2010, planning regulations changed to allow conservatories to have a solid roof without the need for planning permission but it is always a good idea to check if you need building regulation approval as some local authorities can be strict with changes to your home that may affect the wider environment, look of your property or, indeed, your neighbours. We can advise you on this.
